Cupcake Exploding Box Card

I LOVE cupcakes, especially my friend Helen's ones (hint hint Helen!).  I was asked to do a card for a special 14 year old's birthday so what better than a cupcake!  Now obviously it can't be a real cupcake as that would end up in my tummy smelly and mouldy so I made one out of paper and chiffon...

Just to warn you, this post is a bit image heavy but it's worth it I promise!

Itty Bitty Loveliness

How cute are these little flowers!! So very easy to make too - just grab the flower from your Itty Bitty Accents Punch Set (what was that.... you don't have that punch set?  No problem, just click the link below to buy one!), punch out two flowers and stick them together off setting the top one.

Making your pearls pink is super easy... just colour them in with a sharpie marker - easy peasy lemon squeezy!

A VERY Special Birthday

A few years ago I had the immense privilege of meeting a very special little boy.  He has a very nasty condition called Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy plus Epilepsy and severe learning difficulties.  His prognosis was very poor and those that love him were told that he would only live for a couple of years at most.

Painted Petals Note Cards

My fabulous Dad has a lovely aunty that he keeps in touch with on a regular basis.  Knowing that she loves flowers I decided to make 10 little note cards with their own storage box for my Dad to send her.  I hope they bring a smile to her face :)

Crafty Spark recipe time....

For 10 note cards you need

5 sheets of A4 Pistachio Pudding card
2 sheets of Painted Blooms designer series paper
Coloured backing paper of your choice

Now to get creating (my favourite bit!)

Cut the A4 Pistachio Pudding sheets down to A5 size and then score through the middle to make an A6 sized note card.
Cut your backing paper to fit the cards and then taking one sheet of Painted Blooms, cut it into 6 and stick to the top of your note card also.
You then need to cut two strips off of the second sheet of Painted Petals setting the remainder aside for your box.  Trim to size and add to the remaining 4 cards.
For my sentiments I used a few of different stamp sets  - Teeny Tiny Sentiments, Painted Petals, A Round Array, Best Day Ever and Feel Goods.  Rather a lot of different sets I know but I just couldn't help myself!

For the box you need

6" x 11 3\4" base Pistachio Pudding card
5" x 11 3\4"'lid Pistachio Pudding card
Remainder of the Painted Blooms paper

Starting with the base first.... on the long side of your card, score at 1" + 5 1\2" + 6 1\2" + 11"
Turn your card and score on the shot side at 3\4"
Cut into your card like this....
Then a bit of folding and gluing and you have your box base! Easy peasy lemon squeezy hahaha

Grab your lid piece of card and score on the long side at 2 1\2" + 3 9\16" + 8 1\8" + 9 3\16"
Turn the card and with your score tool, find the 2 1\2" point and score just to the next score line in the two narrower sections (the picture is probably easier to follow!).  If you have the Stampin' Up! Trimmer this bit is LOADS easier as you can see easily where you need to scorenand you can be ultra precise with your scoring.  If you have a standard scoring board move you card over just a smige to get the scoring right.  You have to do this otherwise your lid will be too tight and won't slide in easily.
Fold the card on the score lines and glue.  You could use tape when making boxes but I always think glue is better as when it dries, the acrylic in the glue it helps to strengthen the box.
Now for the fancy schmancy bit - pinch the top corners of the lid together so it looks a bit like a milk carton.  Pop a bit of glue just inside the top lip and hold till dry.... hmm because we've all got so much time on our hands to sit and hold wet glue!  Make life a bit easier and put some little bulldog clips on it!!  The Stampin' Up! Tombow glue dries super fast if you're not sure what glue would be best to use.
Now you can decorate it - I used the left over bit of Painted Blooms paper for the top and flipped it over (very conveniently it's double sided!) to decorate the base.
To give it a bit more of a manly feel rather than a girly feel I added some dark blue ribbon around the top and just a button in the middle.
So what do you think?  Do you like it?

Bye for now
Lea xx
