Red.... is it Christmas???

Hmm, red - usually a colour I tend to associate with Christmas and Valentines Day, that's such a stereotypical thing to say isn't it!  So today, jumping off my pink fluffy cloud of safeness I decided to do a birthday card using red..... which after all I told myself, is just a darker shade of pink anyway (well actually I didn't tell myself that, more like screamed it at the top of my lungs!).

To give myself a bit of comfort (no not chocolate unfortunately) I used my Garden In Bloom Stamp Set again as I just LOVE using this set at the moment and you can see the technique of how to stamp with it HERE.

The main difference today though was that I used the smaller 'bud' type flowers and leaves - I've circled them in red (hehe) to the right so you can see which ones they are.

The colours I've used this time are:

The 'Happy Birthday' sentiment comes from the equally fabulous Butterfly Basics Stamp Set
The background brick wall was made using the technique from this tutorial that I did with the Brick Wall Embossing Folder and the die cut butterfly was done using the largest butterfly from the Butterflies Thinlits....... btw if you buy the Butterfly Basics Stamp Set and the Butterflies Thinlits as the Butterfly Basics Bundle, you actually get 15% off of the price - win win!

Tutorial Time

(you thought I'd forgotten didn't you hehe)
First things first - here is your stamping sequence, the tutorial for stamping with the Garden in Bloom Stamp Set is HERE for you.... (not sure what happen to the paper colour on the second and third photos??)

So, do the outline in Watermelon Wonder, stamp off the Watermelon Wonder to do the colour of the flowers and then use the full strength Watermelon Wonder again to do the shadow on the flowers.  The leaves are Pear Pizzazz for the outline and then Pear Pizzazz again but this time stamped off to colour in the leaves.

The sentiment as I said is from the Butterfly Basics Stamp Set and I die cut it with one of the Lots of Labels Framelits then sponged the edges in Watermelon Wonder using an ink dauber - these are really neat little sponges that fit on the end of your finger :)  The other two die cuts are done in Real Red and Watermelon Wonder then off set from each other giving a staggered effect.  Do you like my little butterfly?  Cute isn't it - Papillon Potpourri Stamp Set and the Bitty Butterfly Punch created it :)

Now I'm going to show you a little trick..... see how glossy the large butterfly is?  Want to know how to do it?  Thought you would and it's really very simple!  All you need is the die cut butterfly, some Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder, Versamark Pad and your Heat Tool then watch this short video to see how it's done...

I've put some little flowers on the front cut from Real Red cardstock and Cherry Cobbler cardstock using the flower shaped punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and in the centre, added a little pearl coloured red with nail varnish to add to the 3D effect.  Last but by no means least, I stamped some more flowers inside to continue the theme of the card :)
